Arts Capital welcomes $7.9 million and $5 million for Gorman Centenary Renovations

Arts Capital that manages twin arts facilities Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres is thrilled to be the recipient of $7.9 million in funding from the ACT Government and $5 million from the Federal Government for critical upgrades to the much-loved Gorman Arts Centre.

Residing on Ngunnawal land, Gorman Arts Centre is one of Canberra’s earliest buildings having first opened in 1920 as a hostel for government workers. It was then launched in September 1982 as Gorman House Community Arts Centre by Mrs Tammy Fraser. Now simply called Gorman Arts Centre along side its’ sister site Ainslie Arts Centre,  plays host to a community of multi-disciplinary artists producing works throughout the year, from contemporary music, visual arts to theatre and dance. A+G has been providing practical and conceptual support to this community for more than a decade.

Our commitment to servicing the Canberra arts sector by providing a place for contemporary art in all its’ forms to thrive extends to the Centenary renovations, which will see Gorman Arts Centre become a robust fit for purpose building servicing creative talent locally, nationally and beyond for a further 100 years.

This important investment from the Federal Government and the ACT Government will be used to upgrade underlying building infrastructure issues, enhance accessibility, safety, and energy efficiency, and deliver major heritage restorations to this much-loved centre.
