Hope Flies is a project by Isobelle Carmody where 30 kites decorated by award winning illustrators and artists will be auctioned online to raise funds for Redkite charity.

Isobelle Carmody decided to use the publicity around her new book to raise funds for Redkite, a charity that takes care of families dealing with childhood cancer.

She sent some kite shaped canvases to 30 award winning illustrators, graphic novelists and artists, including such luminaries as Shaun Tan, Graeme Base and indigenous artist, Bronwyn Bancroft, to decorate.

They donated their art to the project and now that all 30 kites have been revealed on the Hope Flies website, the auction begins and will go on until midnight on December 7.

Go onto the Hope Flies website to see the kites and to bid. You can see the kites in real life, in Gorman House Arts Centre F Block Gallery for one week from December 2 – 7, where they are to be photographed and filmed.
