Engaging with First Nations + CALD Artists: Creative Recovery and Resilience Program Residencies

In August 2020, the ACT Government announced it would deliver the Creative Recovery and Resilience Program (CRRP) to focus on employment and economic stimulus for the creative sector in the process of recovery and building resilience. Ainslie+Gorman engaged 5 program residents and embedded them in the studio resident buildings as they undertook their creative work. This fostered diversity and created connections within the Resident community at Gorman Arts Centre.

LGBTIQ+ Elders Dance Club

The LGBTIQ+ Elders Dance Club was presented as a monthly social dance event for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender people over 55 conceived by All The Queens Men, delivered in partnership with local health advocacy body Meridian (formerly the AIDS Action Council), All The Queens Men and Arts Capital. Positive response from the community and program partners has led to Dance Club continuing in 2022 and solidifies Ainslie+Gorman’s reputation as a safe-space for the A+G community, residents, partnerships and the wider community.

Families: Sensory Art Lab

Sensory Art Lab is an interactive art experience that Ainslie+Gorman ran in partnership with Slow Art Collective.

Designed to be accessible for all ages and to meet accessibility standards, the program engaged children, their families and their carers. Our Kids X Art program resident Michelle Day worked with Slow Art Collective as a mentor and gained hands-on experience while the duration of the program benefited residents, such as Ausdance ACT, with coinciding events at Gorman Arts Centre attracting overflow audiences in common spaces.
