Our Youth Orchestras Bring a Friend Open Day is the perfect opportunity for young musicians to experience what it’s like to play in an orchestra.

String players aged 8 to 25 are invited to join one of our Saturday morning rehearsals, meet the conductors, and play through current repertoire. Existing members can bring a friend along, and new players are warmly welcomed.

Three ensembles rehearse across the morning, grouped by playing level:

• Louise Butler Strings (Beginner, AMEB Open to Grade 2)

• McCusker Strings (Intermediate, Grade 3 to 5)

• Canberra Youth Orchestra (Advanced, Grade 6+, ages 14–25)

Rehearsals are held at the Ainslie Arts Centre and run during regular Saturday times. While the focus is on string players, wind, brass and percussion players may also attend and will be guided on suitable placement options. Parents are invited to attend a short info session during the morning.

If you’re curious about joining or just want to try something new, come along and give it a go. Applications for ongoing enrolment are open all year.
