Yamile Tafur Rios

Textured divide

Yamile Tafur Rios is a visual artist and educator from Colombia based in Canberra. She completed her bachelor degree in Visual Arts in Colombia in 2012 before moving to Australia.

She has exhibited solo and group exhibitions between 2013 and 2019, and have received funding for her projects from the Colombian Ministry of Culture among others. Yamile’s field of interest and research centres around the process of manufacturing of clothes, manual labour and everyday occupations. Yamile began her artistic career in the medium of painting but has since moved into textiles and weaving as she continues her focus on the manufacturing and laborious process of making clothes. She is also heavily involved in community projects including completing a large-scale mural for the Latin American Centre in Canberra.

Yamile is part of A+G’s In-House Program– a Cultural Access Program to lower the barriers for access to Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centre facilities for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse artists and makers.
