CANCELLED: Bree van Reyk + Mick Turner has been cancelled due to illness. All ticket holders will be refunded in full today and should receive money back in their accounts in 2 – 5 business days. We share your disappointment in missing these two musicians in action and we hope to present this collaboration in the future.

We recommend attending Saturday’s Ainslie Salon with Potential, a weirdo dark-pop, synth-wave + a sax trio from Gadigal Country. More info here: Ainslie Salon presents Potential – Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres

Bree van Reyk (vibraphone) and Mick Turner (guitar) debut as an instrumental duo, performing music from van Reyk’s ‘superclusters’ album alongside new collaborative works. The ‘superclusters’ album, released in 2022 on Hobbledehoy Records, features Turner as well as his Dirty Three bandmate, Jim White, violinist Véronique Serret, and approximately 20 of this country’s leading improvising musicians from the avant jazz/classical/improv worlds.

This special live performance of ‘superclusters’ for the Ainslie Salon program features tracks from the album in exploded form, exploring the connections and counterpoints between the rich and sonorous landscapes of Turner’s unique guitar playing, and the avant-Classical/sound-art textures of van Reyk’s percussion-led compositions. Taking the album collaboration as a departure point, the pair will also premiere new duo works.

Mick Turner is a Melbourne (Naarm) artist and musician, known primarily as guitarist with internationally acclaimed instrumental group Dirty Three. Bree van Reyk is a drummer, percussionist and composer who lives and works on Gadigal land.

Take a listen.
