Few groups in history, recent or otherwise, elevate mood to such singular, smoldering supremacy as the Australian duo of Jonnine Standish and Nigel Yang aka HTRK [‘Hate Rock’]. Theirs is a chemistry of smoke, echo, and the undertows of desire, the dislocation of cities and memory, the melancholy of distance and deepening night. It’s music of solitude and sensuality, for small hours and lost weekends, spoken in an intimate shadow-play language of skeletal electronics, velvet voice, and noir guitar.

HTRK new release Rhinestones has solidified HTRK’s unique status as one of Melbourne’s most distinctive exports.

莎瑜 (ShaYu) will be performing with HTRK. 莎瑜 (ShaYu) is a collaborative project between Zhi and 黑芝麻 (HeiZhiMa). Zhi is an experimental artist whose work includes digital poetry and installation art. 黑芝麻 is a sound artist who weaves topics of cultural identity and belonging, environmentalism, and sensuality using field recordings, spoken word, texts and music. Together they are exploring concepts of deep listening and intimacy, in-process and public engagement.

Ainslie Salon is presented by Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres with support from the ACT Government’s Amp It Up! funding initiative.
