Join one of Canberra’s most beloved singer-songwriters for an artist talk before she leaves town! Presented by Ruth O’Brien from Upbeat!

Kim Yang
is a Taiwanese-Australian singer-songwriter, her ethereal voice, evocative lyrics and soothing instrument fingerpicking capture the attention of passers-by.

Kim has supported and shared the stage with ARIA awarded artists including Katie Noonan, Josh Pyke, Ben Lee, Kate Ceberano and Fanny Lumsden. She is a regular at big gigs and festivals, including the National Folk Festival and Sydney Folk Festival this year.

Since 2019 Kim has released two EPs, one live album and received various grants from artsACT, including to produce her upcoming new project. Her music has been aired regularly on Double J radio and premiered on triple J.

This year Kim has been nominated as Artist of the Year by MusicACT and performed at the Australian of the Year ACT Awards ceremony.

Kim is currently expanding her skills as a songwriter and a home producer since receiving two arts grants from artsACT. She has been co-writing with various artists, including Katie Wighton (All Our Exes lives in Texas) and working on a few self-produced songs for her upcoming release in 2023.

In this special in-conversation style event, Upbeat’s founder, Ruth O’Brien, will talk with Kim about what she’s learned in recent years about how to build a career in music being based in Canberra. The chat will cover a mix of insights around songwritingmarketing yourself as an artist, building your audience and practical tips for next steps in your career as an independent artist. There will also be a Q & A at the end and a chance to mingle and meet others in music in Canberra.

Make sure not to miss out on this exclusive event with the beautiful, Kim Yang.
